Happy April 1st! (No fooling around here though)

It’s funny how ideas never seem quite as brilliant after a good night’s sleep… Well, here goes:

I was thinking about the business of becoming a financial advisor (let’s simplify slightly and just say CFP®). How does an advisor become a CFP®?

Typically by taking a course of some sort - online, at a university — a book(s) to study, videos or classes to attend, homework to complete. I’m sure there are variations on this, but that’s the general idea.

Here’s the brilliant part. That’s how the information gets from the course/teacher to the advisor. How does the advisor get that information to their clients?

Well, certainly in any possible way but the way they learned it. New ways of delivering financial advice and supporting tools are being dreamed up by advisors, tech founders, and VCs every week.

But what about your ‘ole standard LMS (Learning Management System)?

I asked ChatGPT a series of questions about this:

  1. What’s an advisor?

  2. What job titles/industries include the word advisor?

  3. What's the best way for an advisor to share this "expertise" with others?

  4. How can software or "advisortech" help facilitate this sharing of expertise?

ChatGPT:

Software or "advisortech" solutions can significantly enhance the efficiency and reach of advisors by leveraging technology to streamline processes, manage data, engage with clients or audiences, and deliver personalized advice. Here are several ways through which software can facilitate the sharing of expertise:

  1. Client Relationship Management (CRM) Systems

  2. Content Management Systems (CMS) and Blogging Platforms

  3. Learning Management Systems (LMS)

  4. Webinar and Video Conferencing Tools

  5. Social Media Management Tools

  6. Portfolio Management and Financial Planning Software

  7. Data Analytics and Visualization Tools

  8. Email Marketing Platforms

  9. Document Sharing and Collaboration Tools

  10. Client Portal Platforms

Now most of these are on the Kitces tech map, but Content and Learning Management Systems? Not so much:

Could this be a gaping hole in the typical advisortech stack? What do you think?
