Last week I saw a Sabri Suby YouTube ad… In case the name doesn’t ring a bell, probably a face will:
I clicked through and bought his “Sell Like Crazy” book for $2.96 in shipping, ignoring the barrage of VSLs, emails, letters (two came in the front cover of the book) I received once in his funnel.
I mean he is good - when his “video sales letter” is playing after purchasing the book, when I hovered over the X to close the browser or the URL bar to go to a different site, a pop-up showed every time encouraging me to keep watching. As a marketer, that stuff is annoying - but also impressive. How far should one go these days to get and then keep attention?
The first paragraph in the book:
“The statistics are grim: 96% of all businesses fail within 10 years, with 80% failing within the first two years…
…Why do so few businesses grow and become profitable? I’ll tell you: The difference is the dedication and drive of the company’s leaders to sharpen and apply the skills that matter.”
The 2nd chapter is all about staying focused on the activities that move the needle. Using the 80/20 rule twice:
20% of activities create 80% of the results… taken a level deeper:
20% of those 20% create 80% of the results…
So: 4% of the work we do creates 64% of our revenue. Maybe we should focus after all?
